An Agility-based Rehab &
Retraining Facility for herding & working breeds

What Aarrf! Is All About

An Agility-based Rescue & Retraining Facility

Hi, my name is Laura and I've been showing and training dogs for a quarter of a century and am now the Founder of a special dog resucue. For short, you can call us aarrf! We are a 501c (3) rescue for a very specific dog:  herding types and wild childs. According to herding type dogs are the most often to be returned to shelters! The reason: fosters and adoptive parents don't understand these beautiful and highly complex breeds.

At Aarrf we have 50 years combined experience handling and retraining behaviors in these hardworking breeds.

Based on Agility Training Principles

We are unique in that we use the Agility course to build the dogs' trust and bond with humans, and provide the mental and physcial demands these dogs need. We give them a job that is rewarding and fun for handler and canine, and which can be done at his new forever home or on our course in Napa, CA.

We receive our rescues from the Napa County Animal Shelter, Whiskers, Tails and Ferals. Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch, national herding rescue groups and other shelters who are having problems rehoming these special dogs.

Our Pets and Vets Program

We know that canine training is good for the soul, but Agility training with its precise chain of command and specific objectives has been shown to be particularly helpful for returning vets readjusting to social activities. We will be working with Napa JC to afford this opportunity for vets to work with dogs. Like our returning Warriors, these dogs have a skill set that no longer has a place in urban society. Who knows, they may themselves adopt one of these beautiful dogs that long for a person to love and protect and give them a forever home!

Please, Help Our Cause

As the new kid on the block we are in need of funds for kennels, food and shelter for our dogs, and a camper van so our volunteer staff can take these beautiful dogs to agility and herding trials and match them up with people who understand these breeds.  You'd be hard pressed to find a more loyal breed than a herding-type dog.

Whether it's $1 to send me a heads-up for my newest venture, $5, $50 or more, every cent of your contribution goes to help the dogs and is fully tax deductible.

We Always Need Fosters and Trainers

We will teach you how to live happily with a herding type dog before you take them on for fostering. We also need walkers, feeders and cleaners for our small kennel operation.

Donations of crates, beds, blankets, leashes, dog bowls and high quality food and treats are always appreciated. We can also use some drivers to drop off information and donation boxes. We will reimburse for gas.

We also need individuals who would like to to learn to teach agility and obedience to help rehab our fosters.
